Boston, MA — Partners HealthCare announced today that Massachusetts Eye and Ear, a specialty teaching hospital in Boston with patient care sites throughout the region, is now a member of the Partners HealthCare system.  The transaction closed on Sunday, April 1, following a rigorous state regulatory review that ended in mid-February.
“We believe that joining Partners HealthCare, puts Mass. Eye and Ear in position to best serve the broad spectrum of patients who require our services, including the rapidly growing aging population,” said John Fernandez, President of Mass. Eye and Ear.  “Beyond patient care, this strengthened relationship will further advance research and innovation.”

Together we can improve access to Mass. Eye and Ear services with the aim of improving quality of life for families throughout the region and around the world. By combining the research efforts of both organizations, we hope to accelerate medicine’s search for new cures for deafness and blindness.

Gregg Meyer, MD Chief Clinical Officer, Partners HealthCare

Founded in Boston in 1824, Mass. Eye and Ear is the oldest eye and ear, nose and throat hospital in the country. Mass. Eye and Ear physicians provide patient care at 19 locations in greater Boston and Providence, RI.  Mass. Eye and Ear is also home to the world’s largest vision and hearing research centers, as well as the Harvard Medical School training programs in ophthalmology (eye) and otolaryngology (ENT).
Mass. Eye and Ear will keep its name and hospital license, and remain a not-for-profit charitable health care organization, with its own board of directors, executive leadership team, medical and research staff, and community outreach and fundraising activities.

By joining forces with Partners HealthCare, Mass. Eye and Ear has entered the world of integrated health care. We know this change will be transformative for our patients, and for all who hope to eradicate blindness, deafness and other debilitating diseases of the head and neck.
