BOSTON, MA – Partners HealthCare has announced it is committing $1 million to the newly created One Fund Boston to help the families who lost loved ones and the victims of the Boston Marathon tragedy. This donation is made in honor and recognition of the employees of the Partners HealthCare system who live and work in this community and dedicate themselves everyday to our mission, enabling our hospitals to deliver some of the best patient care in the world.

“This donation on behalf of the 60,600 men and women of Partners HealthCare will help fulfill the vision of the Mayor and Governor in delivering much needed financial support directly to the victims and families as they recover both physically and psychologically,” said Gary L. Gottlieb, MD, President and CEO of Partners HealthCare.

Gottlieb added, “As the stories of heroism and courage continue to unfold, we are reminded of how fortunate we, the Boston community, are to play host to so many great medical institutions. The staffs at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Medical Center, Children’s Hospital Boston, Mount Auburn Hospital, Tufts Medical Center, the first responders and others provided the emergency care that saved lives.”

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino last week announced the formation of The One Fund Boston, the purpose of which is to raise money to help those families most affected by the tragic events that unfolded during Monday’s Boston Marathon.
