The PBS NewsHour segment “Does this Obamacare experiment offer significant savings?” reported on Accountable Care Organizations (ACO) across the country and whether personalized coordination of care will save large amounts of money in the future. The program featured the work of the Partners HealthCare ACO and how it has provided high-quality, efficient care for Medicare patients.

Since its inception, the Partners ACO has created 26 new programs with teams of primary care physicians, nurses and psychologists to provide more services for patients. While the program is still relatively new, Partners has seen hospital admissions drop 6% this year over the previous year which allows hospitals to free up capacity and see other patients.

Partners is committed to this journey regardless of what happens. We have built sufficient confidence that this is the right thing to do for our patients.

Tim Ferris, MD Senior Vice President of Population Health Management
