Teaching

Diversity, a long-standing value of Partners HealthCare, is critical to improving our health care system. The programs, fellowships, internships and awards that we provide reflect our commitment to contributing to an environment of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Graduate Medical Education

Partners hospitals sponsor residency and fellowship programs in nearly all medical specialties and many subspecialties, and have a long track record of training expert clinicians and health care leaders. Some of the Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs at Partners are sponsored by a single hospital and offer comprehensive training within that institution. Other programs are jointly sponsored by two or more Partners and/or other Harvard hospitals, utilizing complementary resources from the participating sites.

For more information on GME or information for international and multicultural residents and fellows, visit the Graduate Medical Education website.

MGH Center for Diversity and Inclusion

The MGH Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) provides numerous career-enhancing resources to students, trainees and faculty who are underrepresented in medicine (URM) to support their unique professional paths and expand their aspirations and goals. The Center also helps to educate our workforce on cross-cultural interactions with patients and colleagues, contributing to a more inclusive and welcoming hospital environment.

The CDI has worked closely with all clinical departments to design mentorship and career development programs for physicians and trainees underrepresented in medicine during their training at MGH. The CDI also sponsors welcoming receptions, networking and recognition events to help build a sense of community within MGH.

MGH Institute of Health Professions Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council

A major component of the MGH Institute of Health Professions’ mission is to attract and cultivate a diverse, academically talented community of students, leaders, faculty, and staff, and to foster an inclusive and welcoming environment where every person is treated with dignity and respect.

The Institute’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council has governance over several initiatives aimed at exploring ways to recruit more faculty from underrepresented populations, examining curricula, and improving teaching strategies across programs to ensure every student learns about cultural competence. Examples of activities aimed at making the campus more inclusive include the annual Dignity and Respect campaign aimed to build inclusion from a different lens as well as the new reflection room in the Shouse Building where people find a quiet space to pray, meditate or recharge.
