Antibody Core (BWH) - Kuchroo
The Antibody Core Facility provides commonly used monoclonal antibodies to the BWH research community. The antibodies are available in convenient 500µg aliquots at a cost substantially lower than that of commercial vendors.

The Center for Computational and Integrative Biology (CCIB) Automation Core will provide six core laboratory automation services as well as Special Project Design and Implementation.
Biospecimen
Core (BWH) - Bry
The Crimson Biospecimen Core prospectively collects discarded
clinical materials matching investigator-defined criteria against available information
on clinical samples, including ICD.9 codes and results of clinical laboratory
testing. Studies using the core must either (1) have an IRB-approved protocol
for discarded clinical materials and anonymized information or (2) a protocol
to allow collection of discarded samples from patients consented for their study.
Collected samples may be additionally processed, aliquotted, or tested per the
menu of clinical laboratory tests available within the BWH Clinical Laboratories.
Biostatistics Core - CCI
(BWH) - Hurwitz
Biostatistics support is available to investigators in the Brigham and Women's
research community for statistical consulting on issues such as study design
and data analysis for manuscripts and grant applications. Resources are
limited, so planning ahead is essential. The Biostatistics Consulting Service
is part of the Biostatistics Core of the Center for Clinical Investigation.
CCIB DNA Core (MGH) - Seed
The DNA Core at the Center for Integrative and Computational Biology (CCIB) offers rapid turnaround DNA sequencing, DNA synthesis and research automation. Services offered include microsatelite analysis, Optional Oligo Desalting, 96-well plasmid DNA preparations and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) purifications and processing, baterial colony picking & archiving, high throughput cDNA and siRNA library screenings.
Cell Culture
and Microscopy Core (BWH) – Rheinwald
The Cell Culture and Microscopy Core provides well-characterized primary
and experimentally immortalized human cell lines, custom culture services,
and training and access to a conventional fluorescence microscope and digital
camera.
Chronobiology Core (BWH)
The Chronobiology Core provides a central resource for trained personnel specialized in Chronobiology procedures, available to investigators on an hourly basis. The Core simplifies new study start-ups, reduces cost by sharing personnel among studies and provides a centralized pol of similarly trained personnel.
Clinical Genetic Research Facility (MGH) - Gusella
The Clinical Genetic Research Facility (CGRF) offers clinical investigators
a convenient, modern research-dedicated facility for outpatient studies
involving genetics. Our outpatient exam rooms and phlebotomy rooms are
fully equipped, and an experienced medical assistant is available to facilitate
the visits.
Clinical
Research Program (MGH) - Crowley
The Clinical Research Program (CRP) is the MGH’s
infrastructure for clinical investigators. Through five units, it provides
direct services to faculty and staff for all types of clinical research
(translational, trials and outcomes). The CRP also develops innovative
tools to anticipate and enable future research opportunities. The five
units include an Education Unit , Clinical Research Support Office (CRSO)
, Genetics and Genomics Unit , Disease Management and Outcomes Unit,
and an Information Management Unit.
Clinical Trials Center – CCI

The Clinical Trials Center is a convenient facility for outpatient clinical
trials. Infusion interview, exam, and procedure rooms are available
for research staff, along with a touchdown space with telephone, fax,
and computer access. Experienced personnel are on hand to perform phlebotomy,
blood, and specimen processing, ECGs, and handle specimen packaging,
shipping, and storage.
Confocal Microscope
Core (BWH) - Kedersha
The Confocal Microscope Core provides access and assistance provided
in the use of confocal microscopy with additional capabilities in live-cell
imaging and photobleaching studies.

The purpose
of the Neuroscience Microscope Core is to offer laser confocal microscopy
services.
DF/HCC Cancer Pharmacology Core
The
Cancer Pharmacology Core provides DF/HCC investigators with the necessary expertise and resources to design and undertake pharmacokinetic studies in phase I and phase II clinical trials and preclinical investigations. The Core can implement and validate established analytical methods to quantify drugs and their metabolites in biological fluids; it can also modify or develop entirely new assays when necessary.
DF/HCC Cytogenetics Core
The Cytogenetics Core at DF/HCC provides cytogenetics analysis of human and mouse cells, including conventional karyotyping, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and comparative genomic hybridization (CGH).
DF/HCC High-Throughput Polymorphism Detection Core
The High-Throughput Polymorphism Detection Core provides services to investigators conducting molecular analyses of somatic DNA. Specific services include high-throughput assays of specific gene mutations and polymorphisms (SNP), DNA plating/extraction/WGA and illumina/Sequenom genotyping. Available equipment includes a TaqMan ABI Prism for allelic discrimination assays.
DF/HCC Recombinant Protein Expression and Purification Core
The
Recombinant Protein Expression and Purification (RPrEP) Core provides a cost-effective resource to the MGH and DF/ HCC community for expression and purification of recombinant proteins necessary for pre-clinical studies as well as for basic mechanistic studies by immunologists and cancer biologists.
DF/HCC Specialized Histopathology Core
The Histopathology Core provides consultative and interpretive pathology services including high quality, timely analysis of tissues obtained from experimental systems such as rodents, fish and monkeys. The Core also offers professional expertise in experimental design, test development and interpretation.
DF/HCC Tissue MicroArray Core
The Tissue MicroArray and Imaging Core constructs and evaluates high-quality tissue microarrays for cancer research. Core services include construction of standard and custom tissue microarrays, preparation of slides, immunofluorescent staining, image acquisition & analysis by AQUA, high-throughput isolation of DNA and RNA from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue cores, as well as consultative services.
DF/HCC Tumor Imaging Metrics Core
The Tumor Imaging Metrics Core provides reliable and consistent standardized tumor imaging measurements of radiological images to evaluate treatment response for oncology clinical trials. The four main services provided are: consultation services for image-based protocol and image analysis design; image aggregation and management of scans from all DF/HCC institutions; image measurement of lesions from scans of patients on clinical trials; results reporting and database management of radiological data for clinical trials.

The DNA Sequencing Core provides highly accurate, high quality DNA sequencing
service to the BWH community, and other users as desired. Our turn-around-time
is 36 to 72 hrs.

The DNA Synthesis Core offers multiple scale synthesis of DNA oligonucleotides,
both modified and unmodified.
Drosophila Genetics Core (MGH) - Perkins
Sixty percent of disease related genes in humans have conserved counterparts in flies. Virtually all of the signaling pathways implicated in cancer, metabolic diseases, and congenital birth defects are conserved in flies. The MGH Drosophila Genetics Core allows researchers the opportunity to benefit directly from the vast resources and knowledge that Drosophila offers as a genetically amenable, rapidly growing and relatively inexpensive model system. Drosophila offers an alternative approach to addressing questions that are difficult or impossible in higher organisms and humans.
Education Core - CCI (BWH)

The Center for Clinical Investigation (CCI), offers educational services
designed to promote high quality clinical research at BWH for both investigators
and study coordinators. A range of workshops is offered to help train
new research coordinators in how to conduct clinical studies. In addition,
CCI offers ongoing continuing education sessions for experienced study
coordinators who want to increase their knowledge regarding good clinical
practices and current methods for performing high-quality clinical trials.

To provide high standard cell sorting and analysis services to the research community at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Longwood Medical area.
Flow Cytometry Core (MGH) – Preffer
The cell sorting and analysis lab provides access to the most sophisticated
flow cytometers presently available. The core is able to analyze and physically
separate cells based upon feathers detectable with fluorescently labeled
monoclonal antibodies.
Glass Washing and Autoclaving Core - RSMG (MGH) - Kotelly & Frederico
The Research Space Management Group's (RSMG) Glasswashing and Autoclaving Core provides autoclaving and laboratory glassware washing services, including pick-up and delivery in both the Simches and Thier research buildings, as well as CNY 149. RSMG also manages the conference center scheduling and a computeized message board system. Other services include centralized carbon dioxide (CO2), distributed cable television, XOMAT machine care, supplies and copy services.
Harvard Catalyst Central Lab Core (BWH) - Ricchiuti
The Harvard Catalyst Central lab Core provides central lab services at the Harvard Catalyst Science Center, including access to leading-edge genomic and proteomic technologies and other technologies taht help advance human translational research. Services include use of space, equipment, personnel and general supplies.
Human Genetics Consult
Service – CCI (BWH) - Celedon
The Human Genetics Consult Service, is a collaborative effort between
the Harvard-Partners Center for Genetics and Genomics (HPCGG) and the
Brigham and Women's Center for Clinical Investigation (CCI). This program
is designed to provide consultation to investigators regarding the
incorporation of genetics and genomics in their research, including
help in arranging collaborations and accessing available resources
for genotyping, sequencing and genetic epidemiology.
Knight Surgical Lab (MGH) - Alam
The Knight Surgical Research Laboratory (KSRL) is an AALAC accredited,
fully staffed and stocked, multi-purpose large animal survival surgery
facility. The lab was established in 1989 and is operated and maintained
by the Department of Surgery. Investigators from the Department of Surgery
and outside the Department use the facility to perform surgery for Subcommittee
on Research Animal Care (SRAC) approved large animal research studies.

Martinos Center Technology Core (MGH) - Rosen
The backbone of the Martinos Center is the Imaging and Computational Core
Resources. The Imaging Core includes an extensive and expanding inventory
of state-of-the-art MR, MEG, Optical Imaging and PET Imaging facilities
and equipment, including related laboratories and testing rooms. The Computational
Core oversees data processing, computational infrastructure, software and
hardware issues.
Microscopy Core (MGH) - Brown
The Microscopy Core of the Program in Membrane Biology
(PMB) is equipped and staffed to provide a wide range of services
to investigators from MGH and the Boston area scientific community in
the area of light and electron microscopy.
Monoclonal Antibody Production Core (MGH) - Ramesh
The purpose of the Monoclonal Core is to provide a monoclonal antibody
production service to research projects. Protein/peptides provided by
the individual investigators will be used to generate mouse monoclonal
antibodies.
Morphometric Analysis Center (MGH) - Makris
The MGH Morphometric Analysis Center (MMAC) is established for the generation
of neuroanatomic morphometric measurements. The Core transitions morphometric
methods developments into ‘production mode’, as the efficiency
and quantity of application areas grow.
Musculoskeletal Imaging Research Core (MIRC) (MGH) -
Torriani
The Muscular Imaging Research Core (MIRC) offers specialized imaging techniques
including quantitative computed tomography (QCT), magnetic resonance (MR)
spectroscopy of muscle and high-resolution soft tissue MR imaging. QCT
is a technique widely employed for studies evaluating body composition
and bone mineral density. MR spectroscopy is a technique that allows non-invasive
quantification of metabolites in human tissues.
PET Core (MGH) - Brady
The PET Core Laboratory provides a full range of technical and professional
services for the design and execution of programs using Positron Emission
Tomography (PET).

The Specialty Assay Research Core Laboratory provides sensitive and reproducible clinical research assays to investigators for endocrine, diabetes, bone markers, inflammatory and sleep medicine related to research in human and animal clinical research protocols. Consulting and technical support are also available.

This Tissue and Blood Repository Core provides specimen
acquisition, processing and storage services, and access to archived
frozen tissue specimens to the BWH/MGH/DFCI research community.
Transgenic and Knockout
Facility - CBRC (MGH) - Georgopoulos
The transgenic core provides services, which includes microinjection
of oocytes and transplantation of embryos into foster recipients for
the generation of transgenic mice. ES cell injections and blastocyst
transplantation to generate knockout mice is also covered. The facility
is also equipped for the cryopreservation of 8-cell mouse embryos. The
transfection service provides the technology and expertise necessary
for the preparation of recombinant ES clones and their subsequent injection
into host blastocysts.

Transgenic Core Facility provides services for generating transgenic and knockout mice. Established in 1992, the BWH Core Facility has been providing gene targeting and microinjection services using state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.
Tumor Imaging Metrics

The Tumor Imaging Metrics Core (TIMC) provides
standardized, consistent, and efficient radiological measurements to
evaluate tumor response. The Core makes reliable, quantitative, longitudinal
measurements (such as linear dimension, RECIST, volume, function, etc.)
of lesions from serial MRI, CT, and PET scan images. The Tumor Metrics
Core provides a service for managing these images, making measurements
in a routine, reliable, and centralized way, and making results available
to investigators efficiently.

The Virology Core provides Flow Cytometry and Real-Time
PCR services through the use of the Becton Dickinson FACSCalibur Flow
Cytometer and ABI PRISM 7000 Sequence Detection System. The core provides

Vector Development and Production Core (MGH) - Tannous
