Tumor Imaging Metrics Core
Co-Directors: Matthew Barish, Gordon Harris,
Annick Van den Abbeele
Locations: BWH, MGH, DFCI

Core Summary:

The Tumor Imaging Metrics Core provides and standardizes consistent and efficient
radiological measurements such as linear dimension, tumor volume, total body burden, fuction,
etc. to evaluate tumor response for DF/HCC clinical trials.

Facilities and Equipment:

Locations of Cores:

Brigham and Women's Hospital, 3D and Image Processing Center
Massachusetts General Hospital, 3D Imaging Service
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Department of Radiology, Division of Nuclear Medicine

Major Equipment:

Imaging network connecting five DF/HCC imaging centers
2D and 3D image analysis workstations
Image study archive (PACS)

Services:

The Tumor Metrics Core provides four primary services to DF/HCC investigators:

  • Consultation services for image-based protocol and image analysis design
  • Image aggregation and management of scans from all DF/HCC institutions
  • Image measurement of lesions from scans of patients on clinical trials
  • Results reporting and database management of radiological data for clinical trials

The Tumor Imaging Metrics Core will maintain a database of longitudinal radiological and
clinical data that will link to the Quality Assurance for Clinical Trials (QACT) Core to provide
an auditable record of quantitative measurements for clinical trials conducted through the
DF/HCC.

(1) RECIST - Response Evaluation Criteria for Solid Tumors (linear).
(2) WHO - World Health Organization criteria (bi-directional).
(3) Cheson (sum of products of perpendicular diameters). An additional charge of one scan
time-point will be applied if measurements must be repeated from baseline; i.e. if new target
lesions are identified for a subject in accordance with Cheson response criteria guidelines.
(4) SUV - Standard Uptake Value, using body weight formula.
