At MGH, a diabetes research team cured Type 1 (so-called juvenile) diabetes in 80% of diseased lab mice. After the team injected the mice for 40 days with a compound, diseased cells died off and were replaced by healthy adult stem cells. Previously they identified a T cell defect in diabetic mice that destroys insulin-producing beta cells.

Research is fundamental to the mission of Partners HealthCare, and the research enterprise, which covers the spectrum from basic science to translational and clinical investigation, accounts for nearly $1 billion of research activity. Partners Research Management exists to facilitate the vitality and success of the research enterprise by both promoting compliance with federal, state and sponsor-specific requirements while serving the operational needs of the Partners research community.
