The Office of Graduate Medical
Education performs a variety of administrative functions in
support of the residency and fellowship training programs
sponsored by Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts
General Hospital and serves as a resource for program directors,
program support staff and trainees.
Activities of the Office of Graduate Medical Education include:
- Coordination of the education related committees, including
the Partners Education Committee, the BWH Education Committee
and the MGH Executive Committee on Teaching and Education.
- Liaison activities with the Accreditation Council for
Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), a national organization
that reviews and accredits many specialty and subspecialty
programs.
- Performance of internal reviews of all ACGME-accredited
residency and fellowship programs (includes interviewing
program trainees).
- Sponsoring a variety of educational programs such as the
Partners Housestaff Core Curriculum Retreat, Partners Chief Resident Course, Partners Fellows' Retreat and a series
of workshops for program directors.
- Development of policies relating to graduate medical education
and trainees for committee approval.
- Updating contracts and benefits packages for graduate
medical education trainees in conjunction with other Partners
departments.
- Planning for House Officer and Clinical Fellow orientation
and other special programs.
- Convening periodic "Town Meetings" for residents
and clinical fellows, to provide a forum for the exchange
of ideas between trainees and administration.
- Serving an ombuds function for clinical trainees, supplementing
support available through the Harvard Medical School Ombuds
Office and the Partners Employee Assistance Program.
- Advocating for issues important to trainees.
