Linen Services operates the Garment Window on the L2 level of the Tower, open 7 am - 4 pm Monday - Friday except for holidays. The window remains open during lunch. White lab coats and blue fluid resistant lab coats are available. All orders for lab coats should be submitted to Linen Services on the Garment Services User Authorization Form. Forms are available at the Garment Window and can be sent via interoffice mail upon request.

Lab Coat Pool System: Linen Services maintains a circulating inventory (pool) of white lab coats. These are available in either men’s (straight) or women’s (fitted) styles, even sizes 30 to 56, in both short and long coats. The pool system operates on a one-for-one exchange. The exact size and/or style you want may not be available when you come to exchange your coat. If this happens, your name and number (beeper or phone) will be taken and you will be contacted as soon as your size and/or style is available, usually within 1-2 days. You will have the option of taking a different coat until the preferred one is available. Individuals who require special fittings can arrange personalized (user-specific) service at an extra cost.

Fluid Resistant Lab Coats: These also are available on a one-for-one exchange system. The fluid resistant coat is a reusable light blue polyester unisex coat with elastic wrist seals. It is available in X-small, small, medium, large and X-large.

Pricing: All hospital garments received through the garment service require a cost center number for billing. The cost includes the use of the garment and the cleaning.

Labcoats are provided for residents and department approved individuals only. Recipients should bring a copy of the department approval memo to the Mailroom, located in the Gray Bigelow basement, room 020. The cost center must appear on the approval memo. Hours of operation for issues are Monday thru Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Costs for labcoats are $14 each. Mailroom personnel will fill out a form to acknowledge receipt for chargeback purposes.

Two different styles are available: 1) Waist length labcoats range in size from X-small to XX-Large. 2) Knee length labcoats range in size from 32 thru 54. Both styles have the MGH seal stamped on the breast pocket.

For infection control purposes, soiled labcoats are to be brought to the mailroom in closed plastic bags. Please complete a slip indicating the date, your name, contact number and the quantity of coats to be cleaned. Clean coats may be picked up form the mailroom in approximately 7 days with the requestors slip copy.
