The Partners International Office (PIO) provides immigration services to all foreign national staff at MGH, BWH, Spaulding and McLean Hospitals and the MGH Institute of Health Professions. Processing of all non-immigrant staff, scholar and student visas (including B-1, F-1, J-1, J-2, H-1B, TN, O-1 visas) must be coordinated by the PIO. The PIO advises both the individual and the hiring department on extending the stay of an international researcher or other professional staff.

Currently the ECFMG certification requirements for licensure/appointment and J-1 visas for residents and clinical fellows are processed by the Registrar’s Office at MGH (617-726-2119) and the Graduate Medical Education Office at BWH (617-732-8540).

The PIO provides a monthly orientation program to newly-arrived internationals on practical applications of adjusting to life in the US. Immigration overviews, tax seminars and other relevant programs are offered at various times during the year. In addition the PIO advises on travel requirements, changes to and extensions of visa categories, medical insurance, social security issues, attorney referrals and green cards.
