BWH
BWH recognizes that an increasingly multicultural patient population
requires a commitment to the provision of exceptional culturally competent
care and the principles of diversity. The BWH tradition of providing

of its staff.
As we strive to remain competitive in the ever-changing healthcare
environment, BWH has underway various activities designed to increase
the diversity of our workforce, enhance diversity awareness and education
and aid in the development of proficiency in cultural competence.

MGH MULTICULTURAL AFFAIRS
The Multicultural Affairs Office (MAO) aims to increase the number
of physicians and scientists from underrepresented ethnic backgrounds
at all levels within the MGH and facilitate their career development.
It is integrally involved in residency training program recruitment
of underrepresented minority physicians to multiple specialty and
sub-specialty services. The MAO also sponsors national and local outreach
programs that target underrepresented minorities at different levels
of their education and expose them to the many resources for training
in the sciences here at MGH.
Another major focus of the office is the development of a culturally
competent environment within Partners HealthCare System and Harvard
Medical School. Under the direction of Dr. Winfred Williams and associate
directors Drs. Anne Beal, Ernesto Gonzalez and Andrea Reid the office
is embarking on a number of new initiatives aimed at enhancing diversity
within the physician and physician-scientist community at MGH. The
Multicultural Affairs Office is located at Bulfinch 123. For more
information call 617-724-3832, fax 617-724-6591 or e-mail wwwilliams@partners.org.
