The Offices of Public Affairs at BWH and MGH serve as comprehensive communications resources to the Partners community. The Offices provide official hospital spokespersons, create printed material such as brochures and newsletters and develop both media response and initiation strategies. Public Affairs serves as the principal clearinghouse for hospital communications, both internal and external, evaluating and ensuring accuracy, appropriateness and consistency with the Partners mission and professional standards.

As world-renowned centers for patient care, teaching and research the MGH and BWH generate widespread media coverage. Public Affairs works with hospital and Partners staff to respond to inquiries from the press. Hospital policy states that all media inquiries to medical staff, House Officers and employees must be referred to the Public Affairs Office. In addition, all media must be escorted by Public Affairs personnel when present on hospital property.

Note: If you are contacted by the media, you should contact Public Affairs before agreeing to be interviewed or directing media to other sources within the hospital.

The Public Affairs staff members are always interested in learning about work, activities and ideas that may be of interest to the media. If you are involved in a BWH or MGH activity that may be of interest to any of the hospitals’ audiences you should contact the Public Affairs Office. Staff members will work with the people involved to evaluate the best approach for initiating or managing communications.
