Partners High Performance Computing (pHPC) Services

General High Performance Computing Service Model

pHPC facility is supported by Partners Enterprise Research Infrastructuae and System (ERIS) team.

The pHPC service model allows usage by any Partners or Partners-affiliated investigator or researcher. Participants in the service are from BWH, MGH, DFCI, and PHS corporate entities, and their collaborators. The shared model allows any researcher to use any and all nodes, when available, with transparent job queuing and load balancing when the clusters are busy. Additionally, investigators purchase dedicated servers from a hardware list for inclusion into the cluster. This service allows the cluster to keep up with increasing demand while the "owner" has the advantage of prioritized and dedicated resources, ability to leverage all shared resources, while incurring no support costs for maintaining these nodes nor their own clusters. When idle, these dedicated servers fall back into the shared pool. For those investigators with high storage/backup demands in the TB range, purchase of additional disk for inclusion into the system will be required but also follow the pHPC service model to provide the same advantages. Currently investigators have purchased 40% of the current nodes with ERIS contributing all storage. Purchased nodes fall into 3 classes:

* standard performance- 1RU, 2 dual core opterons, SATA drive, 4GB RAM
* high performance- 1RU, 2 dual core opterons, SAS drives, 8GB RAM
* extreme performance- blade server, 2 dual/quad core Xeon Woodcrest CPU's, SAS drives, 8+GB memory, inserted into high performance TB storage system.

Scientific Computing Support

ERIS staff work closely with investigators to provide high quality service to the community. Specialized scientific and technical support is provided directly to investigators of these systems. ERIS team provides high-level guidance and assistance in parallelizing applications within the environment, code writing suggestions, job submissions, 3rd-party scientific application support, scientific database support, and problem resolution.

High Performance Storage Support

pHPC provides massive storage services to the community. Please visit ERIS MAD Project or contact rcc@partners.org for more detail information.

High Performance Database Support

pHPC provides high performance database support related to HPC clusters, Please contact rcc@partners.org for more detail information.
