Clinical Investigator Spotlight:
Samuel Z. Goldhaber, M.D., Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Director of the BWH Venous Thromboembolism Research Group

Goldhaber

Samuel Z. Goldhaber, MD is a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Venous Thromboembolism Research Group.  His work focuses on the epidemiology, diagnosis, management and prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism.  His group conducts research on optimal effective and safe warfarin anticoagulation, pharmacogenomics and novel anticoagulant agents.

When asked about the role of the PHS Office of Corporate Sponsored Clinical Research (CSCR) in his research program, Dr. Goldhaber replied, “As the world becomes more complex, the navigation required to abide by new and revised regulations necessitates increased vigilance and skill. CSCR staffers collaborate with their physician scientist investigators to make certain that we follow the letter and spirit of these requirements.  After all, we share a common goal: ensuring that Partners remains a global top player in the research community.

CSCR protects the academic freedom of investigators and ensures that sponsors enter into fair but binding contracts to reimburse the time and effort of personnel dedicated to research projects.

The Venous Thromboembolism Research Group has tripled in personnel, projects, and grant awards this past year. Throughout our growth process and expansion, the CSCR agreement associates have been constant supporters, always offering sage advice with a “can do” attitude. We feel especially fortunate to be working closely with Attorney Nancy E. Lugn of CSCR.”
