IDG’s Computerworld Names Partners HealthCare to Annual List of Best Places to Work in Information Technology

Boston, MA – Partners HealthCare announced that IDG’s Computerworld, the “Voice of IT Management,” has selected it as one of the top workplaces for information technology (IT) professionals.  This honor is part of the weekly IT publication’s 16th annual Best Places to Work in IT survey, which was published in the June 15 issue of Computerworld and online at Computerworld.com.

Since 1994, Computerworld’s annual “Best Places to Work in IT” feature has ranked the top 100 work environments for technology professionals, based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention.  In addition, this year Computerworld surveyed more than 27,000 IT workers for the list, and their responses factored heavily in determining the rankings.

“The IT professionals at Partners are an integral part of our overall mission to provide extraordinary patient care, to educate and train some of the brightest physicians in the country, to conduct the medical research responsible for advancing the way care is delivered, and to focus on maintaining a strong commitment to our community” said Mary Finlay, Deputy Chief Information Officer at Partners HealthCare.  “We deeply value our IT staff and aim to provide the support and flexibility needed to meet the changing demands of the modern-day IT workforce.  This recognition is a fitting tribute to the value we place on these dedicated professionals.  We are honored to earn this recognition.”

Partners HealthCare offers IT staff an innovative program called ‘Connected Work,’ which has helped set Partners apart as a “Best Place to Work.”  Connected Work allows IT staff to work remotely (from home or connected work workspaces) one or more days per week.  Being part of the Connected Work workforce allows Partners IT professionals to have flexible work schedules with constant access to all the necessary tools to provide IT support.  Some of these tools include voice over internet protocol (VoIP) phone capability, individual conference lines, connected work suites, scheduling software and a department to support Connected Workers.  With the IT department spread across the city and suburbs of Boston, having the flexibility to work remotely, meet virtually and conference call on short notice allows Partners IT staff to work more effectively, efficiently, and offers the added benefit of “being green.”

“To be among the Best Places to Work in IT, it's not enough just to seek out and hire the most talented IT people, offer them competitive pay and provide great benefits," said Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld.  "The organizations that made this year's Best Places to Work list sustain a dynamic work environment in which IT professionals keep their hands on the latest technologies and work on projects that are business critical. In the months and years ahead, IT is going to become a key accelerator of business growth.”
