The Partners Neurology Service was established in 1995. Drs. Anne B. Young (Chief, Massachusetts General Hospital) and Martin A. Samuels (Chair, Brigham and Women's Hospital) led the clinical integration process with their proposal for a combined Partners Neurology Service. Partners Neurology has led the way in establishing joint and common programs to promote quality improvement and efficiency. In addition to the primary academic teaching hospitals (Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital), Partners Neurology represents an affiliation with a number of community hospitals, specialty hospitals, and neurologists in private group practices.Efforts in clinical integration have helped to advance the objectives of delivering expert patient care, leadership in educating future neurologists, and novel, cutting-edge research programs. MissionThe mission of Partners Neurology is to contribute significantly to the discovery of effective treatments and cures for neurologic diseases. Our goals are to provide our patients with the highest quality care and treatment available. The cutting-edge research conducted by our physician investigators provides them with unique knowledge of the underlying causes of disease and the most promising treatment modalities. This knowledge is shared with resident and fellow physicians to ensure that a new generation of expert neurologists advances patient care and research. Designing a Partners system-wide approach to Neurology in collaboration with neurologists in the community will enable us to best meet these goals. Physician StaffThere are 128 full-time faculty members appointed in Neurology at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. All of our faculty members have appointments through Harvard Medical School. Over 100 clinical or research fellows contribute to the care of patients and laboratory research conducted in Neurology at the two founding hospitals. Our Partners Neurology Residency Training Program has 38 residents in its three-year program. Trainees rotate to Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Brockton-West Roxbury VA Hospital. There are separate training programs in adult and pediatric neurology. |
