JOINT VENTURES

Partners and its member hospitals are frequently recognized for excellence by independent sources. In 2003, The New York Times called Partners "the model marriage in academic medicine." Among groups that use objective ratings:

  • U.S. News and World Report consistently includes the MGH and BWH in its annual "honor roll" and gives Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and Dana-Farber high marks in their specialties;
  • Consumer Reports magazine recently ranked MGH and BWH first and second in its "50 Exceptional U.S. Hospitals Report" (April, 2005). Hospitals were ranked on their implementation of 27 quality and safety practices endorsed by the National Quality Forum;
  • The Leapfrog Group1 rates MGH and BWH as outperforming all other U.S. hospitals on key measures of quality and patient safety.

1The Leapfrog Group is a national coalition of employers, health plans and hospitals devoted to improving quality and patient safety. Leapfrog focuses on four practices: computer physician order entry; evidence-based hospital referral; intensive care unit (ICU) staffing by physicians experienced in critical care medicine; and The Leapfrog Safe Practices Score, based on the NQF-endorsed Safe Practices.
