Innovation

One of the core principles underlying our programs is the desire to create new ways of thinking and doing. For PHI the ideal project is one that offers the opportunity to raise the standard of patient care, or transform and enhance education programs to create new and better kinds of health professionals. Our rigorous attention to strategy, planning, and people development are part of this—we are not here to create just another and another institution, but rather we strive to help advance health care delivery and education forward, with our partner’s vision and goals at center.

Real program examples serve best to illustrate how innovation fits into the picture of program development at PHI:

  • Creating the model for a new health sciences institute featuring programs in medicine and nursing—both built to local accreditation standards yet augmented by an innovative interprofessional curriculum designed to produce health professionals who are leaders, collaborators, and critical thinkers
  • Developing a hospital facility design that pushes the boundaries of local design in such a way that local building regulations are changed to accommodate better efficiency and increased patient safet
  • Developing a clinical program plan for an Academic Medical Center that encourages multidisciplinary collaboration via Centers of Excellence and teams versus siloed clinical departments
  • Using Boston-based professional development and learning programs to develop pilot programs to be implemented and studied back at our partner’s home institution
  • Creating a leadership development program geared to nurse managers, with the goal to enhance managerial capacity in the area most critical to staff retention and patient satisfaction
