Partners Neonatology Group

Partners Neonatology Group is a collaboration between Partners Neonatologists (pediatricians with specialized training in caring for newborns) dedicated to coordinating and delivering the best care for newborns and their families. Our staff, special care nurseries, and newborn intensive care units are located at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, MassGeneral Hospital for Children, Newton-Wellesley Hospital and North Shore Medical Center. You can be confident in the high quality of care your baby receives in each of our hospitals. You also benefit from our network of neonatologists and specialized nurses that work together to provide the most sophisticated care your baby may need.

CARE FROM PARTNERS NEONATOLOGY
Care is provided around the clock by experienced pediatricians and nurses who are in the hospital and immediately available to you and your baby. Our services include Level I normal care for healthy babies (provided at all our Partners hospitals), Level II care in our special care nurseries, and advanced Level III care for the critically ill newborn.

Newton-Wellesley Hospital and the North Shore Medical Center provide Level II care in the community setting. Brigham and Women’s Hospital and MassGeneral Hospital for Children provide Level III critical care, and both are teaching affiliates of Harvard Medical School.

THE NEONATOLOGY TEAM
The teams at our Partners hospitals are dedicated to providing a complete care program for each baby and family. They will provide you with the comfort and assurance of expertise and a coordinated network so that your baby receives the best level of care in the most appropriate care setting.

Partners neonatologists and neonatal nurses are at the core of the neonatology team. A full complement of pediatric medical and surgical specialists also works closely with them. Other support services include the feeding team, dieticians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, and pharmacists. Social workers and pastoral counselors are also available to work with the staff to provide families with emotional support during a baby’s stay.

COORDINATION OF YOUR NEWBORN'S CARE
If your baby requires additional care, a Partners neonatologist will promptly work with your physician to consult and arrange for an immediate course of action. In the event your baby requires a transfer between hospitals, we will arrange for the prompt and safe transport of your baby to the appropriate location.

As your baby receives care, we will notify your family pediatrician about your baby’s admission to the newborn intensive care unit. You and your physician will be provided with ongoing progress reports and a final discharge summary of your baby’s course. When your baby’s condition improves, we will prepare you for bringing your baby home or assist in arranging your newborn’s transfer back to a nursery closer to home.

Throughout this process, we will develop a plan of care with you and your family pediatrician.

FOR PATIENTS
Who should I contact to discuss my baby’s care?

When a high-risk condition is expected, your obstetrician should consult with one of our neonatologists to develop a plan. If you learn that your baby needs our services during the birth process or after the baby is born, the on-site neonatologist will determine the appropriate course of action and will contact your pediatrician of the admission.
