Current Trainees Moving within Partners
What if I am already at the BWH or the MGH -- and not changing hospitals?
Interns, residents or fellows currently in an accredited GME training program at the BWH or MGH and are not changing hospitals, do not need to attend. You will need to sign up for benefits and complete an
I-9 form, if switching from residency to fellowship or vice versa.
What if I am already at the BWH or the MGH -- not changing hospitals -- but am not currently appointed as a clinical trainee?
- Research fellows who will START or RESUME their clinical training either as a resident or fellow this July should come to the appropriate session orientation session for Clinical Fellows.
- Staff Physicians (appointed as “Assistant in…..”) who will be appointed as a Clinical Fellow this July should attend the Clinical Fellow orientation, if you have never been to orientation before at the hospital where you'll be starting your training. This situation is rare, but it happens.
What if I am training as a resident/fellow at BWH and coming to MGH? What if I am training as a resident/fellow at MGH and coming to BWH?
- Current BWH interns coming to a MGH residency program, or current MGH interns coming to a BWH residency, do not have to attend orientation, but certainly can and are most welcome. If you do attend, you don’t need to stay for benefits orientation, the last session of the day.
- BWH residents starting an MGH fellowship, or MGH residents starting a BWH fellowship, but it’s not mandatory. However, you will need to sign up for benefits and complete an I-9 form, whether you attend orientation or not. The I-9 form must be completed in person at the Professional Staff Benefits & Compensation Office located in the Bulfinch Building, first floor Room 26. Sign up for benefits can be done on-line through eBenefits in PeopleSoft.
What if my BWH program is integrated with MGH? What if my MGH program is integrated with BWH? or integrated with another institution?
- Integrated RESIDENCY programs: If the program is “sponsored” by the BWH or MGH, we strongly advise that ALL matriculants attend the orientation at the other hospital. All "new hire" activities (payroll, licensing and primary credentialing, parking sign-up, pre-placement health screening, etc.) should be done through the respective offices.
- Integrated FELLOWSHIP programs: Matriculants should attend orientation at the employing institution—that is, the one that will pay you.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the Partners Office of Resources for Trainees (PORT).
