Quality of patient care encompasses safety, effectiveness, patient-centeredness, timeliness, efficiency, and equity. The mission of the Center is to support the interests and passions of trainees in exploring healthcare delivery with an emphasis on quality and patient safety.

The Center of Expertise in Quality and Patient Safety provide trainees with:

  • access to monthly didactic sessions led by Center faculty
  • opportunities to present cases in didactic sessions
  • mentorship and research opportunities working with Center faculty
  • funding grants to attend national conferences
  • research funds for specific quality and safety related proposals

Trainee Research and Funding Opportunities

Mentorship: Faculty of the Center will meet with trainees to discuss research, career plans, and other topics of interest. Contact Centers of Expertise for information.

National meeting sponsorship: The Center offers support for a number of trainees to attend the national conferences of the Institute of Healthcare Improvement and the National Patient Safety Foundation Annual Congress. Contact Centers of Expertise for information and applications.

Research funding: The Center provides several $5000 stipends annually for research projects. The 2009 process is closed. The process will reopen in early summer 2010.

Research projects: Faculty Tejal Gandhi and David Bates will conduct research with trainees for 3 month rotations. To arrange a meeting contact Centers of Expertise.
