Marilyn Paterno, MBI

Ms. Paterno has over twenty years experience in the field of clinical information systems design and delivery and is the senior informatician and project lead for the architecture, design and implementation of an enterprise clinical rules service that includes use of a vendor-supplied, enterprise-wide clinical decision support (CDS) rules execution engine and authoring environment.

Prior to joining Partners HealthCare in 1995, she designed and delivered a Mammography Tracking System that provides reminders and results to both patients and providers at multiple outpatient clinics of an integrated delivery network. At Partners HealthCare, she was part of the team that provided Brigham & Women’s Hospital an event management, rules engine, and clinical alerting system, a product that continues to run under her management today. Ms. Paterno is highly experienced in the design and delivery of CDS systems; while at Partners HealthCare she has been responsible for the design, software development, and delivery of projects that include an enterprise-wide allergy repository, a clinical algorithms processor and editor for use with clinical practice guidelines, and a variety of drug and allergy intervention services for both inpatient and outpatient settings.

As a member of the CDS Consortium study team, Ms. Paterno plays a lead role on the services sub team, guiding the production of a publicly available web service to be used for guideline execution by the project’s demonstration sites. She is also a member of the sub teams on knowledge specification and information modeling of decision support guidelines.
