CIRD at Partners HealthCare
This research project will be managed from the Clinical Informatics Research and Development group at Partners Healthcare System. Dr. Blackford Middleton will serve as PI with members of CIRD serving as Co-Investigators. CIRD will participate in all aspects of this research and have responsibility for creating the Knowledge Portal and Repository and CDS Public Services. Ellen Rosenblatt will serve as financial manager for this research program with support of Lynne Benoit from BWH research administration and Debra DiGregorio from BWH DGIM. Lana Tsurikova will serve as research program manager for CDS Consortium program. In addition, CIRD staff, in collaboration with members of the CDS Consortium, will develop primary research methods and instruments to use in this research and prepare AHRQ research reports, academic presentations, and manuscripts for publication. CQA at Partners HealthCare

DGIM at Brigham and Women's Hospital
Members of the Harvard Medical School faculty and staff in the Division of General Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital will collaborate as subject matter experts in clinical domains under study for clinical decision support. Hospital will also support the design and implementation of research methods. Dr. David Bates will provide overall guidance for evaluation research methods in collaboration with members of the CDS Consortium. Geisinger is an integrated health services organization widely recognized for its innovative use of the electronic health record, and the development and implementation of innovative care models including ProvenHealth Navigator, an advanced medical home model, and ProvenCare program. Dr. Aziz Boxwala from University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine will lead the Knowledge Translation and Specification team, which will develop the specifications for the multilayered knowledge representation, tools for viewing and editing recommendations, and translation of guidelines into the knowledge representation format we develop. University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey
Dr. Sonnenberg from University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey (UMDNJ) will participate in multiple projects and activities that require his expertise. Dr. Sonnenberg is responsible for leading new content development from work collaboratively done in the CGC with the intent of producing a set of High Priority Rules transformed into L2 and L3 artifacts. Dr. Sonnenberg will continue to provide his expertise during the OY3 implementation of the newly developed L3s into the CDS Service. University of Utah Health Sciences Center
Co-investigators from the University of Utah Health Sciences Center will support the research activities of the CDS Consortium. In particular, it will collaborate on two primary research areas: (i) the integration of CDS Web services into commercial EHR system environments; and (ii) the use of the open-source, standards-based OpenCDS framework. The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and Oregon Health Sciences University
Dr. Dean Sittig from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) and Dr. Joan Ash from Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) will lead the research focusing on surveying and defining best practices for the knowledge management lifecycle for CDS. In addition, they will lead the assessment and definition of best practices for knowledge translation and specification for CDS. They will, also play a lead role in defining how these best practices may be disseminated to electronic health record technologies created by vendors, and make recommendations to CCHIT for CDS certification criteria. In addition, Drs. Sittig and Ash will play lead role in defining best practices for CDS deployment in electronic health record systems. Veterans Health Administration
Co-investigators from the VHA at Indianapolis Center for Decision Support will collaborate in the research activities outlined above, and support implementation of CDS demonstration projects in the VHA Vista electronic health record.
