Referential Medication Knowledge Base

Project Members: Carol Broverman, Joel Vengco, Eileen Yoshida, Saverio Maviglia, and Jaime Chang

With the inception of the MMIDL project and the NDDF Load and Implementation Project, there is a significant need for knowledge engineers, analysts, and researchers to begin conducting analysis that leverages medication knowledge within and across sites as well as knowledge from the commercial files provided in FDB’s NDDF.

The Referential Medication Knowledge Base project (rMKB) will be a referential database which will eventually house all of Partners’ medication knowledge assets for use in analytics and informatics research and development.

Some of the initiatives that will use the rMKB will be as a concept update alert monitor for MMIDL management and maintenance, as a medication content and knowledge source for Quality Data Warehouse, and as a reference and research center for Knowledge Management daily activities such as looking up drug attributes, modeling medication knowledge, and querying and reporting for various authoring and maintenance purposes.

For the longer term, the rMKB has a significant role in modeling what can be the future state of medication content and knowledge at Partners. The latter phases of this project will consist of creating a process that extracts all of Partner’s medication knowledge assets (MDD, BICS, COSTAR, etc) and loads them into the rMKB. In this environment, knowledge management can begin to model how content will be authored, managed, and maintained at Partners.
