For people with a High School Diploma or GED, a community
college that has an accredited program for HIT (Health Information
Technology) is a great place to start! Core courses for coding
are: anatomy and physiology, medical and procedural terms,
medications and disease classification systems.
For people with a Bachelor’s Degree in another field,
courses in coding classification, anatomy and physiology,
and medication, are needed and can be obtained through AHIMA
courses or through a certificate program to prepare you for
the coding field.
