Partners HealthCare System Information Systems (PHS IS) is dedicated to providing an integrated delivery system solution for information; one that balances the individual needs for distinct solutions to specific clinical or business operation needs. PHS IS continues to pursue appropriate technology solutions, whether developed in-house or purchased, to meet the current and future informational needs of PHS and its individual institutions. PHS IS prides itself on being an innovative organization, and it is our responsibility to ensure that the intellectual property (IP) and innovations developed here are translated to the broader community for widespread benefit.

Historically, resources and support for IP at PHS have largely been focused on the biomedical research enterprises within the hospitals, however, the PHS community also recognizes the critical IP that is developed in PHS IS. PHS has thus developed the IP-Innovation Program to foster and support this IP. Simply put, the mission of the PHS IS IP-Innovation Program is to promote an innovative culture in the PHS IS community, capture and evaluate the IP developed in PHS IS, and translate this IP to the broader community for widespread benefit. Capturing, evaluating, and protecting PHS IS’s IP will provide the legal, strategic, and operational foundation necessary to translate it to the broader community. Translating this IP to the broader community may also return financial and commercial resources to PHS - these resources can be used to: support PHS’s missions of patient care, teaching, and research; support ongoing innovation in PHS IS; and leverage external expertise and technology to accelerate and enhance internal initiatives.
