Greenhealth Emerald Award

Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Boston and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Cape Cod were recognized with the Greenhealth Emerald Award.
The Greenhealth Emerald Award is a very competitive award that recognizes health care facilities that have achieved improvements in their mercury elimination, waste reduction, recycling and source reduction programs – above and beyond the Partner for Change criteria. Winning hospitals are selected using Practice Greenhealth’s improved scoring and evaluation system, and are further along the path to sustainability and show leadership in the local community and in the health care sector.

Greenhealth Partner for Change

Brigham and Women's Hospital, Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Martha's Vineyard Hospital, McLean Hospital, Newton-Wellesley Hospital, North Shore Medical Center, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Cambridge, Spaulding Rehabilitation North End, and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital West Roxbury were recognized with the Greenhealth Partner for Change Award.

The Greenhealth Partner for Change Award recognizes health care facilities that continuously improve and expand upon their mercury elimination, waste reduction, recycling and source reduction programs. At a minimum, facilities applying for this award must be recycling 15 percent of their total waste, have reduced regulated medical waste, are well along the way to mercury elimination, and have developed other successful pollution prevention programs in many different areas.

Greenhealth Partner Recognition

Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Nantucket Cottage Hospital were recognized as with a Greenhealth Partner Recognition Award.

The Partner Recognition Award is given to health care facilities that have begun to work on environmental improvements, have achieved some progress, and have at least a ten percent recycling rate for their total waste stream.

“For all of our hospitals and facilities to be recognized by the Practice Greenhealth Awards for the third year in a row is a nice compliment to their programs and projects focused on protecting our environment and the health of our staff, patients, and community,” said John Messervy, Corporate Director, Design and Construction, Partners HealthCare. “We look forward to continuing this work to shape the future of health care sustainability.”
