Partners HealthCare has made a commitment to reduce our energy dependance on fossil fuels; 26% of the energy purchased for this year comes from renewable sources. Partners has been charting a course to reduce energy consumption as part of a strategic energy master plan.

Modern Healthcare recently profiled Partners' efforts around improving sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint. The publication spoke with John Messervy, Corporate Director of Design and Construction, who explained that Partners has moved toward greater use of renewable energy because the organization is a health care organization, and part of that means thinking about what will encourage health and wellness in the community as a whole. Relying on fossil fuels typically produce pollution that can be dangerous to people's health.
