President Barack Obama will nominate Brigham and Women's Hospital's Vivek Murthy, MD, MBA, to become the U.S.'s 19th Surgeon General. If approved by the U.S. Senate, Dr. Murthy will be the leading spokesperson on all matters of public health in the federal government and will head the U.S Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.
Dr. Murthy works as a hospitalist at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital. He is also the co-founder and President of Doctors for America, a group of 16,000 physicians and medical residents that advocates for access to high quality, affordable health care for community members.
