The Partners HealthCare Biobank, a repository of blood samples from thousands of patients for use in medical research, was recently profiled in a Boston Globe article for its efforts to collect samples from as many as 100,000 people. The Partners Biobank is one of only a handful of its size across the country.

The Partners Biobank enables researchers to conduct medical research at a reduced cost because the researchers do not have to recruit the hundreds or thousands of patients often needed to carry out a study. The Partners Biobank has already collected samples from 20,000 patients and is adding about 1,500 patients per month.
