Telemedicine allows clinicians to treat patients remotely, and is a rapidly growing area of medicine in the U.S. and beyond. Joseph Kvedar, Vice President of Partners HealthCare Connected Health, recently joined the On Point radio program to share his thoughts about how telemedicine can best be used, how it can enhance the patient experience, opportunities that telemedicine presents to rethink when patients need to come into the doctor's office, and the potential for growth in the industry.
Kvedar provided some examples of how telemedicine can not only enhance the patient experience, but actually be a better way for clinicians to treat patients. For example, mental health patients sometimes do not want to come in to the office for a visit, and often it is beneficial for the clinician to see and interact with the patient in his or her home environment.
