Industry Collaborations

The vision for academic-industry strategic alliances is to utilize the Partners integrated health care delivery system as a “living laboratory” to develop and test strategies and implement solutions for improving patient care.

Health care and industry collaborations have emerged as a key force in the development and commercialization of biomedical and health care innovations. These relationships provide for exchange of expertise/value between academic health systems, like Partners HealthCare, which includes investigators, clinicians and administrators, and for-profit corporations (“industry”).

Value often includes academic-based intellectual property or cutting edge research in return for financial support or compensation, or access to proprietary technology and services from industry. This type of health care and industry collaboration is based on opportunities to develop technologies that benefit the integrated health system and can be brought to the marketplace for the benefit of the broader health care community.

Partners Research Ventures & Licensing (RVL) is a division of Partners HealthCare that coordinates all commercialization services across Partners HealthCare, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.  Research Ventures & Licensing handles a wide range of responsibilities relating to translational research and the management of intellectual property and its associated institutional policies. The group provides investigators and administrators with guidance on commercialization and related opportunities, including intellectual property, material transfer agreements, marketing, licensing, start-up viability, and business development.
