The vision for academic-industry strategic alliances is to utilize the Partners HealthCare integrated health care delivery system as a “living laboratory” to develop and test strategies and implement solutions for improving patient care.
Health care and industry collaborations have emerged as a key force in the development and commercialization of biomedical and health care innovations. These relationships provide for exchange of expertise/value between academic health systems, like Partners HealthCare, which includes investigators, clinicians and administrators, and for-profit corporations (“industry”).
Value often includes academic-based intellectual property or cutting edge research in return for financial support or compensation, or access to proprietary technology and services from industry. This type of health care and industry collaboration is based on opportunities to develop technologies that benefit the integrated health system and can be brought to the marketplace for the benefit of the broader health care community.
Partners Innovation coordinates all commercialization services across Partners HealthCare, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, which handles a wide range of responsibilities relating to translational research and the management of intellectual property and its associated institutional policies.
Partners Clinical Research Office (PCRO) is responsible for developing, negotiating, and executing agreements and budgets for industry-sponsored clinical research for Partners affiliates. For more information, visit the Partners Research Navigator through the link above, or e-mail email@example.com.
The Partners Innovation Fund, created in 2007 by Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, addresses an unmet need for funding emerging technology in the capital gap. The primary objective of the Fund is to accelerate technologies developed by Partners HealthCare investigators to market, thereby improving health care quality, cost, and outcomes.
The Partners Office for Interactions with Industry oversees policies on interactions with industry and provides information that helps physicians, employees, and staff maintain relationships with industry that meet Partners HealthCare's high standards of professionalism and integrity.
