GME Committee Oversight of Program Changes

The GME Committee oversight at Partners is comprised of the Partners Education Committee (PEC) which oversees all physician education at Partners, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital Education Committee (BWHEC) and the MGH Executive Committee on Teaching and Education (ECOTE), two hospital-based committees which manage the GME accreditation and infrastructure at the BWH and MGH, respectively.

BWHEC/ECOTE oversee and must approve the following prior to a program’s submission of the request to the RRC:

  • Appointments of new program directors
  • Progress reports requested by the RRC
  • All changes in resident/fellow complement, permanent or temporary
  • Major changes in program structure or length of training
  • Additions and/or deletions of participating institutions
  • Requests for exceptions of resident duty hours
  • Voluntary withdrawal of program accreditation
  • Responses to proposed adverse actions and requests to appeal an adverse action and appeal presentations to a Board of Appeal or the ACGME

Guidelines and required documentation for some of these requests as well as the dates of the Education Committee Meetings are listed below.

Program leadership and administrators should refer all matters regarding GME programs to GME Directors assigned to their specialty.
