Graduate Medical Education

Medical Education Resources

We have education resources in place to facilitate a world-class experience. These resources in this section are for residents, clinical fellows, and residency and fellowship program directors and coordinators.

Graduate Medical Education Committees

There are several committees that impact residency and fellowship training at Mass General Brigham. These committees are pivotal in optimizing graduate medical education at our institutions and provide one way for sharing trainees’ ideas and feedback with institutional leadership.

Committees that oversee graduate medical education at Mass General Brigham include:

  • Mass General Brigham Education Committee (MGBEC)
  • Mass General Brigham Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC)
  • Hospital-based subcommittees of the Mass General Brigham GMEC

The committee membership includes GME leadership, residency and fellowship program directors, peer-selected residents and fellows, and other senior hospital and education leaders.

Events

The Mass General Brigham Graduate Medical Education office sponsors annual retreats, regular town meetings, and special events for residents and clinical fellows.

  • Intern Core Curriculum Retreat: Held annually in the Spring
  • Chief Resident Retreat: Held annually in the Spring

Grand Rounds

Coming soon: Videos and presentations from the annual Graduate Medical Education Grand Rounds. These materials will be available only to Mass General Brigham employees on a Mass General Brigham campus.

International trainee resources

They provide immigration services to all professional international staff. Processing of all non-immigrant staff, scholar and student visas (including J-1, J-2, H-1B, TN, O-1, F-1 and B-1/B-2 visas) is coordinated by the GPS. The GPS advises both the individual and the hiring department on initiating and extending the stay of international researchers and other professional staff.

ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) (J-1 Clinical Visa)

Through its program of certification, the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG®) assesses the readiness of international medical graduates to enter residency or fellowship programs in the United States that are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The ECFMG offers a variety of other programs and services to physicians educated abroad and other members of the international medical community. Detailed information on ECFMG Certification requirements and other programs and services offered to foreign medical graduates can be found in the ECFMG Information Booklet.

Harvard International Office (J-1 Research Visas – Research Fellows only)

The Harvard International Office (HIO) offers visa processing services to research fellows at BWH and MGH and provides information on a wide range of topics, including information about travel, financial planning, social and cultural differences, as well as personal concerns. The HIO sponsors discussion groups for spouses, as well as advice on schools for children. HIO acts as a liaison with the U.S. government agencies that have jurisdiction over your stay here.

MASCO (Medical, Academic and Scientific Community Organization, Inc.)

MASCO and its family of organizations, including MASCO Services, Inc., the Longwood Medical Area Child Care Center, Inc., and the Colleges of the Fenway, Inc., offer a wide range of services including area planning and development, parking and transportation, collaborative programs, telecommunications and childcare. MASCO's mission is to pursue programs that promote a sense of community among its members and to create and deliver services more effectively.

Library services

Each Mass General Brigham hospital has a medical library; in addition, a wide range of online library sources are available on the Mass General Brigham desktop. Mass General Brigham trainees that have Harvard Medical School appointments may also access the Countway Library.
