Inpatient Rehabilitation

Inpatient rehabilitation is for patients who require intensive, interdisciplinary rehabilitation services. Such inpatient programs are designed to improve function and promote each patient's highest degree of independence.

Partners HealthCare includes the renowned Spaulding Rehabilitation Network, which offers comprehensive programs and services to meet the needs of post-hospital care at a time when exciting advances and new treatments are available.

Spaulding’s world-class inpatient programs include:

  • Amputee
  • Brain Injury
  • Burns
  • Complex Medical Needs
  • Musculoskeletal
  • Oncology
  • Parkinson’s
  • Pediatric
  • Pulmonary
  • Spinal Cord Injury
  • Stroke
  • Ventilator

Spaulding Rehabilitation Network offers various levels of care including Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility (IRF), Long Term Acute Care (LTAC), and Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF), to which patients are often referred from an acute-care hospital. In some cases, individuals can be admitted to an LTAC, IRF, or SNF without having to stay in the acute-care hospital. Someone who is living at home, but losing the ability to perform daily activities, may be a candidate for admission. These individuals must meet specific criteria established by Medicare to be accepted into the program.

The Spaulding Rehabilitation Network care team works together to develop a customized treatment program to meet each person’s needs and goals. Every one of the doctors, nurses, therapists, and other professionals who are part of the Spaulding Rehabilitation Network are committed to helping patients and their families move forward – physically and emotionally – so they can get back to living life to the fullest.

The care teams of the Spaulding Rehabilitation Network have received national recognition for their patient programs, services, and processes. Its flagship, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Boston has consistently been recognized as one of the top rehabilitation hospitals in the country, ranked in 2010 as #4 by U.S. News and World Report.

As a national leader in rehabilitative care, the network offers some of the most advanced and comprehensive services available. Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Boston is the official teaching hospital of the Harvard Medical School Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), integrating new research and technology with over 100 active studies.
